BSI the National Standards Body have released free guidance to help organisations work safely during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
The guide draws on information from a variety of sources, building on government guidance, and aligns to the recognised PLAN – DO – CHECK – ACT structure meaning you can easily integrate best practice into your existing ISO Management System.

Use your Management System to be COVID-Secure
Most ISO Management Systems now take a risk-based approach which allows you to adapt your system to new threats such as the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
You will easily be able to integrate this additional guidance if you have an existing management system framework to standards including:
- ISO 9001 (Quality),
- ISO 14001 (Environmental),
- ISO 45001 (Health & Safety),
- ISO 27001 (Information Security),
- ISO 22301 (Business Continuity).
Risk Assessment
Consideration of risks occurs throughout the BSI Guidance and can either be integrated into your existing risk register, or as part of a new specific risk management programme.
Emergency Response
There is also specific reference to Emergency Preparedness and Response, which you can recognise from ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
Summary
While this BSI Guidance document is not a new standard, it provides a means to leverage your existing management system and ISO Certifications to manage the Coronavirus COVID-19 Risks, which will be present for some time to come.
